  15. 1. What's on the Disk
  16. This CD contains the first release of the Prime Ministers of Canada CDROM.

  18. 2. Requirements
  19. Ñ    68030 minimum with 8MB RAM (68040 or PPC recommended)
  20. Ñ    16 Megabytes RAM recommended
  21. Ñ    Designed for 256 color display 640 x 480 with 16 & 24 bit Quicktime supported
  22. Ñ    Mac OS system software 7.1 or later (System 7.5.5 recommended)
  23. Ñ  Quicktime
  24. Ñ    3 megabytes drive space free

  26. 3. Setup
  27. There are two ways you can install this software: with the installer, or manually.

  29. 3a. Automatic Installer
  30. 1. Double-click the "Install" icon and follow the prompts.

  32. 3b. Manual Install
  33.  1. Drag the font suitcase "pm list suitcase" onto your System folder.
  34.  2. Drag the folder "Prime Ministers of Canada" to your hard drive or desktop. Alternative: locate the "Prime Ministers of Canada" folder on the "Prime Ministers CD" and double click the "Prime Ministers" icon.

  36. 4. Installing Quicktime¬
  37. This application requires Quicktime¬. If you do not already have Quicktime installed on your system, close any open applications and double click on the "Quicktime 2.5 installer" icon on the Prime Ministers CD. If you have an older version, we recommend you upgrade to version 2.5. Your Mac will reboot at the end of this process.

  39. 5. Running the Prime Ministers CD
  40. 1. Insert the CD in your CD ROM drive.
  41. 2. Open the folder on your hard disk called "Prime Ministers of Canada"
  42. 3. Double-click on the file labelled "Launch PMs" to begin
  43. 4. To quit, click on the Maple Leaf menu, at the top left corner, then click "Quit"

  45. 6. Known problems
  46. Ñ    Using the search for the first time in an Archives section can take a long time (as long as 3-4 minutes. Subsequent searches are much quicker (10 - 20 seconds).

  48. Ñ On slower 68K macintoshes, in the Archives section, the transcript for an audio commentary may not appear. Double-click on the item a second time to load the transcript.

Ñ The help application is Quickhelp¬ 4.3.5.  After Quickhelp is loaded if the main help window for the Prime Ministers CD is closed, subsequent attempts to run help will not reload the main help window. To view the Prime Ministers help file, either 1) quit Quickhelp by selecting "File->Quit" in the Quickhelp menu, and running help from the CD again, or 2) choose "File->Open" in the Quickhelp menu, and select the file "PM mac help".

  52. 7.  Network Considerations
  53. This application has been tested on a Novell 3.11 server for Macintosh and PC compatibility. The same CDROM disk can support multiple Mac and PC users over a Novell 3.11 server with a networked CDROM drive. Other networks may not be compatible. At this time, there are no plans for further network compatibility.
